What is 3GP?
A multimedia container designed for 3G mobile services. It is based on the ISO base media file format and appears in many older phone recordings.
Tested output uses H.264 and AAC. Very old handsets may require H.263/AMR profiles that are not exposed.
Technical details
3GP uses the ISO Base Media File Format family structure with 3GPP-specific brands and media-profile constraints. [1]
Background and compatibility
3GPP designed the profile for mobile multimedia services; it shares ancestry with MP4 while targeting a narrower device/media environment. [1]
