What is AIFF (AIF)?
A short extension for Audio Interchange File Format. AIFF commonly stores uncompressed PCM audio for editing and interchange.
AIF and AIFF are extension variants. Tested output uses 16-bit big-endian PCM; sample conversion can alter precision.
Technical details
AIFF is an IFF-derived chunk container; COMM describes channels, sample size, and rate while SSND carries sound samples. [1]
Background and compatibility
Apple developed AIFF as a Macintosh audio interchange format; its role is analogous to WAVE, and .aif is a common short extension. [1]
