What is Audio Interchange File Format (AIFC)?
An extension of AIFF supporting additional audio encodings.
The verified output uses little-endian PCM (sowt), not a lossy compressed codec.
Technical details
AIFC extends AIFF with compression-type and compression-name fields so audio can use encodings beyond uncompressed PCM. [1]
Background and compatibility
The Library of Congress documents AIFC as the compressed extension of AIFF, retaining the IFF chunk structure while changing sample encoding. [1]
