What is Sony camera RAW?
Sony's camera RAW format records sensor image data for photographic processing.
A verified Sony ARW fixture decodes locally using LibRaw within ImageMagick. Output is a developed raster image; camera adjustments and original sensor data are not preserved. RAW export is unavailable.
Technical details
Camera RAW stores minimally processed sensor samples plus camera-specific metadata; rendering normally requires interpreting the mosaic and color calibration. [1]
Background and compatibility
The Library of Congress groups these as camera-raw families: manufacturer-specific variants differ, and DNG is an interchange profile rather than a universal synonym for native RAW. [1]
