What is Advanced Systems Format?
A Microsoft multimedia container designed to store and stream synchronized audio and video. Codec support depends on the streams inside the file.
Tested output uses WMV2 and WMA2. Encrypted ASF media is not supported.
Technical details
ASF organizes media as streams with packet timing and metadata; WMV and WMA identify Microsoft video/audio codec families often carried in ASF. [1]
Background and compatibility
The ASF specification separates container from stream codecs, so ASF parsing does not by itself imply support for every WMA/WMV codec generation. [1]
