What is Windows cabinet?
A Microsoft archive container used for software distribution. Stored and MSZIP cabinet fixtures have been verified locally.
Extraction keeps regular files. Links, special filesystem entries, directory permissions and installation behavior are not retained. Limit: 128 MB input, 256 MB expanded data, and 1,000 entries.
Technical details
Cabinet archives group files into folders and store compressed folder data with per-file metadata. [1]
Background and compatibility
Microsoft CAB is used by Windows installers and update packages; compression is folder-based rather than necessarily independent for each file. [1]
