What is Core Audio Format?
Apple’s extensible audio container stores audio data alongside descriptive chunks. CAF can hold PCM or compressed sound and avoids the classic 4 GB WAV limit.
This workspace still applies its local memory/file limits. Tested output uses 16-bit PCM.
Technical details
Core Audio Format is a chunk-based audio container with 64-bit chunk sizes, allowing long recordings and flexible metadata/audio descriptions. [1]
Background and compatibility
Apple introduced CAF to address limitations of older audio files and support a broad range of sample rates, channel layouts, and codecs. [1]
