What is Canon RAW?
A Canon camera RAW format that stores capture metadata and image data for development into standard raster images.
Verified with a Canon 40D sRAW fixture, decoded to 1944×1296. Other camera and compression variants depend on bundled LibRaw support. RAW output is unavailable.
Technical details
Camera RAW stores minimally processed sensor samples plus camera-specific metadata; rendering normally requires interpreting the mosaic and color calibration. [1]
Background and compatibility
The Library of Congress groups these as camera-raw families: manufacturer-specific variants differ, and DNG is an interchange profile rather than a universal synonym for native RAW. [1]
