What is Digital video recording?
A recording extension used by multiple systems; the actual container and codec must be detected.
Server conversion requires a compatible engine we host and a verified file variant.
Technical details
“DVR” describes a recorder context, not one media structure: NIST observed numerous export formats across CCTV/DVR systems, nearly all using H.264 internally. [1]
Background and compatibility
For exchange between systems, NIST recommends an MP4 container with H.264 video and embedded timestamp metadata; it reports that nonstandard exports can require conversion and risk losing image quality or metadata. [1]
