What is FLAC?
Lossless compressed audio that preserves the original decoded audio samples.
Technical details
FLAC has a fLaC marker, metadata blocks, and independently decodable audio frames; STREAMINFO can include an MD5 of unencoded samples. [1]
Background and compatibility
FLAC is an open lossless codec: it reduces size without discarding sample information and is used for archival and high-quality music libraries. [1]
