What is ISO disc image?
A filesystem image of an optical disc. Local extraction reads regular files without mounting or executing the disc.
Extraction keeps regular files. Links, special filesystem entries, directory permissions and installation behavior are not retained. Limit: 128 MB input, 256 MB expanded data, and 1,000 entries.
Technical details
An ISO image commonly represents an ISO 9660 optical-disc filesystem with volume descriptors, directory records, and file extents. [1]
Background and compatibility
ISO images distribute or mount CD/DVD media; extension .iso can also contain extensions such as Joliet or UDF alongside ISO 9660. [1]
