What is JPEG 2000?
A boxed JPEG 2000 image file using wavelet-based compression. The format supports both lossy and lossless coding and can carry descriptive metadata.
A flattened visual conversion does not retain every JP2 metadata box or specialized color profile.
Technical details
JP2 wraps JPEG 2000 codestream data in a box-based file syntax that can carry image properties and metadata. [1]
Background and compatibility
JPEG 2000 is a wavelet-based image-coding family; JP2 is the packaged interchange form rather than a bare codestream. [1]
