What is JPEG XL?
A modern image format supporting efficient lossy and lossless compression, transparency, and animation.
Exports contain a flattened raster image. Editing uses 8-bit browser display precision; original layers, metadata, HDR range, and scientific sample values are not retained.
Technical details
JPEG XL separates its codestream from optional container boxes, supporting still images, animation frames, metadata, and lossy or lossless coding. [1]
Background and compatibility
JPEG XL includes a lossless recompression mode for existing JPEG images, allowing recovery of the original JPEG bitstream in some workflows. [1]
