What is M2TS?
A transport-stream variant used by Blu-ray and AVCHD. Its packets include an extra timestamp field compared with ordinary MPEG-TS.
Individual unencrypted media files only. Output is a container file, not a Blu-ray disc image or AVCHD package.
Technical details
MPEG transport stream multiplexes timed elementary streams in packets and carries program tables for stream discovery. [1]
Background and compatibility
Transport streams are used in broadcast and camera-disc workflows; MTS/M2TS suffixes are associated with AVCHD/BDAV variants whose details can vary. [1]
