What is Matroska audio?
The audio-only extension for the Matroska container family. MKA can store audio with tags and chapters, using a variety of codecs.
Tested output uses FLAC. Current exports do not retain chapters, attachments, or original metadata.
Technical details
MKA is an audio-oriented Matroska file; EBML elements describe tracks, timestamps, codec-private data, and segment metadata. [1]
Background and compatibility
Matroska uses the same container model for .mka audio and .mkv audiovisual files; the extension signals intended content, not a new codec. [1]
