What is Portable Bitmap?
A Netpbm image format for black-and-white bitmaps. Each pixel represents one of two values rather than a color or a shade of gray.
Color and gray levels are reduced to black and white. Tested output is binary P4.
Technical details
PBM represents a one-bit black-and-white raster; plain PBM writes ASCII pixels while raw PBM packs pixels into binary bytes. [1]
Background and compatibility
PBM was the first Netpbm format; PGM and PPM were added later for gray and color images. [2]
