What is Photoshop document?
Adobe Photoshop's layered raster document format. Local conversion reads the composite image and writes a flattened Photoshop document.
Exports contain a flattened raster image. Editing uses 8-bit browser display precision; original layers, metadata, HDR range, and scientific sample values are not retained.
Technical details
PSD stores Photoshop image data with layer, channel, mask, and composite-image structures; Adobe documents a 2 GB size limit for PSD. [1]
Background and compatibility
PSD preserves editable Photoshop-specific structure, while Adobe recommends PSB for documents larger than PSD's limits. [1]
