What is TZ archive?
A TAR archive wrapped in an additional compression stream; extraction requires both stages.
Server conversion requires a compatible engine we host and a verified file variant.
Technical details
GNU tar documents named compression programs for compressed archives; the suffix .tz alone does not name which outer codec to run. [1][2]
Background and compatibility
lzop explicitly uses .tzo for a TAR stream compressed as .tar.lzo, while .tz is not that documented alias. [3]
