What is Windows Media Audio?
Microsoft audio compression commonly stored in an ASF container. WMA files often come from older Windows music and voice-recording workflows.
Tested output is WMA2, a lossy codec. Protected WMA and the WMA Lossless output profile are not supported.
Technical details
ASF organizes media as streams with packet timing and metadata; WMV and WMA identify Microsoft video/audio codec families often carried in ASF. [1]
Background and compatibility
The ASF specification separates container from stream codecs, so ASF parsing does not by itself imply support for every WMA/WMV codec generation. [1]
