What is Silicon Graphics Image?
A raster image format native to Silicon Graphics workstations. SGI stores separate image channels and can use run-length compression.
Tested RGB/RGBA raster support; specialized channel arrangements and scientific semantics are not preserved.
Technical details
SGI image files use a fixed header describing storage mode, bytes per channel, dimensions, and channel count; pixels may be verbatim or RLE-compressed. [1]
Background and compatibility
ImageMagick documents SGI as the Silicon Graphics image format, a native raster family associated with SGI workstation graphics. [1]
